SAIDA & ENNA
SISTERS
“I love mountains, and I love hiking together. Being outdoors feels like a safe place for me. ”
Saida: Our mom came to Miami from Honduras in 1989, but we stayed back with my grandpa. After a few years, my aunt said she was leaving Honduras and going to the United States. I begged to come, so she brought me to my mom. I moved to Nashville in 2001 and started working at different warehouses, and then went to HCA to work in medical billing.
Enna: I moved here in 2004 when I was nineteen years old. My first job here was working 12-hour third shifts from 6 pm to 6 am. I hardly slept for the six years that I worked there.
Saida: I worked at HCA for almost 12 years, but then I got sick and went to a dark place. I had to stop working, and then I didn’t have any insurance. My sister, Enna, had been a patient and told me about Siloam Health, so I became a patient too.
Enna: I came to Siloam when my lupus was out of control and affecting my entire body and my spirit. I had bad depression, but the doctors helped me a lot, and Leo, my community health worker, helped me get better. Siloam is amazing.
Saida: After my life started getting better, Leo called me because she knew I worked with medical billing. She told me about a job opening at Siloam, so I applied. And now I am the Patient Engagement Coordinator at Siloam! I love being able to help people in need, like I was.
It’s always me, Enna, and our mom. It’s always us three, no matter what. We like to go shopping together. Lately, we’ve been going to parks and waterfalls.
Enna: I love mountains, and I love hiking together. Being outdoors feels like a safe place for me. It reminds me of being a child in Honduras. The mountains and rivers remind me of home.
Saida: I thank my mom for every opportunity I have. For being brave and making the move from Honduras to here. We have everything we have today because of her sacrifice – our freedom, our kids, everything.
