LUCIO
MECHANIC
“I believe that if I fix something, then it makes Nashville better. Everything affects something else, and Nashville grows.”
I started working on cars at a shop on Nolensville Road when I was 19 years old. The work was hard, but this guy hired me and taught me some things.
I’ve learned a lot over the years, and now I do the things that the other mechanics can’t do. I do all the diagnoses to see what the problems are and what needs to be fixed. Then I check all the cars when they are done to make sure the work is complete and done well.
The most important thing to me is when the person comes to pick up the car, and I see their face. The satisfaction of seeing people happy with my work, no one can ever take that from me.
I believe that if I fix something, then it makes Nashville better. We fix cars for the construction companies so they can build. We fix trucks that run deliveries so they can take things places. Everything affects something else, and Nashville grows. It builds the economy. When I work on cars, I also make sure they are clean – not leaking oil or transmission fluid on the ground so we keep Nashville clean.
One of my friends told me about Siloam about four years ago. I felt sick, but I found out I was really suffering with depression.
The clinic is one of the best things that happened to me. They helped with my physical health and also helped me see that I was a person who always said yes to everything. Ever since I was young, hard work had helped keep my mind busy, but I learned I was running around helping everyone and not taking care of myself. I work so hard, help everyone, and then I’m empty. They taught me that it was ok to say “no.”
I’m very thankful that I’m at Siloam because there I learned that God comes and helps you through other people.
