ISAIAS
LANDSCAPER & FATHER
“I don’t work to be rich; I work to support my family and be with my family.”
I do landscaping for a living. I started by working for another company, but I like the work, so eventually I started my own company. I do all kinds of work - hardscape, installations, trimming, mowing, irrigation, and lighting. Mostly, I do everything that has to do with being outside in the gardens. I think that it is not just a job, it’s being a creator because you get to make things look prettier than they did before.
Sometimes it’s hot outside, but I love working outdoors because you’re in a natural environment. I think my work is really important because Nashville is a very green, beautiful city, and I want to keep it that way.
I like being my own boss and having time for my kids, my family. I don’t work to be rich; I work to support my family and be with my family.
I have been married to my wife for 18 years. We have four kids – the oldest one is 18, and she is going to college next semester. The others are 15, 12, and 10. We love going to the park together and going swimming. We watch TV outside on a projector, and we love to go to church together.
Since I grew up with just my mom, I never knew who my dad was. What I really love now is that I’m learning with my kids how to be a daddy - what I missed from whoever was supposed to be there for me when I was a kid. I try my best to provide, but not give them everything. I teach them how life is and how to grow up being a good human being.
Families like mine can’t afford to go to a regular clinic, so Siloam has been really good for me. They really helped me a lot. They treat you like family. They work for the community, and they try to be in the community for the community.
